Ever since I went back to school I’ve been taking advantage of the Amazon Student discount for Prime Membership. At just $50 a year, I enjoyed free (1) express shipping on almost all of my toys, electronics, cat food and household items and (2) access to a library of streaming movies and TV episodes with Prime Video. There were also other perks such as discounts on video games and Amazon Music subscriptions that I used on occasion. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed when my Amazon Student status expired and the price for annual renewal went from $50 to $99.
But out goes Amazon and in comes Sam’s Club (Sam’s)! At just $45 a year, I now have access to even better prices (on certain items), cheap gas (if I were to buy a car) and groceries.* Let’s take a look at some price comparisons between the two:
|Item**||Amazon||Sam’s||Savings at Sam’s|
|Purina Fancy Feast Seafood Feast Variety Classic 36 cans||$34.39||$16.98||51%|
|Tide High Efficiency Laundry Detergent, 170 Fl. Oz.||$0.19 per oz||$0.11 per oz||42%|
|Folgers Classic Roast Coffee, 48 Oz||$19.48||$10.96||44%|
|iPad Pro 9.7-inch (32GB, Wi-Fi)||from $499.00||from $618.00||-24%|
|Xbox One S 1TB Console -Halo Wars 2 Bundle||$314.99||$349.00||-11%|
|Surface Pro 4 (Intel Core i5 & 128GB SSD)||$739.89||$898.91||-21%|
Based on this rather limited list, it’s clear that while Sam’s can’t beat Amazon on electronics, its prices on household items are better. Plus, you don’t need a Prime Membership to enjoy free standard shipping on orders over $35, so you have access to most electronics deals at Amazon with or without Prime.
In any case, if you’d like to follow me over to Sam’s, feel free to use my referral link for a $20 e-gift card when you join online!***
*If I’d wanted to buy my groceries from Amazon I would’ve had to pay an additional $15 a month ($180 a year) for AmazonFresh.
**Prices are as of April 22, 2017, and subject to change.
***I’ll get a $10 e-gift card too so thanks in advance!
